The 2025 Ontario Series Lacrosse regular season is underway. This afternoon, the Brooklin Merchants traveled to Meaford for a late-afternoon matinee against the Owen Sound NorthStars for their first game of the season.

The NorthStars came into the game with a 1-1 record after an 11-9 loss to Six Nations and a 13-4 win over Ennismore. Owen Sound continued their winning ways after defeating Brooklin 10-6 in this contest.

The first period ended 5-2 for the NorthStars with the home team going on a four-goal unanswered run to set the tone in that frame. A three-goal run by the NorthStars gave them the middle period by a final of 4-2 and it was 9-4 for the home side after forty minutes. The Merchants showed pride and won the last period 2-1 but fell short on this day.

“Unfortunately, we got off to a slow start today and we couldn’t find a way back into the game”, said head coach Ryan Degerdon.

“The one thing that I wanted to see today was effort and I’m glad that the boys kept pushing’, he added.

“Going forward the goal is to increase communication between the players on the floor and to learn and grow from this game, it’s a long season and we will come back stronger”, summarized Degerdon.

For Brooklin, it was Parker Pipher who notched three goals and singles went to Ed Renaud, Darren Elliott, and Robert Morgan. Deacan Knott took the loss in net for the Merchants.

The Merchants are on the road again Saturday May 10 at 8 p.m. to visit the Six Nations Rivermen at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

Their home opener is set for Mother’s Day, Sunday May 11, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. when the Collingwood Cruise sail to Iroquois Park Sports Centre.

The club is celebrating their 25th season in existence. They will be the proud hosts of the Presidents Cup at the revamped Iroquois Park Sports Centre from August 23-30, 2025.
